An Assumption-Based Ovulation Window

The formula projects the next period from the entered average, then counts back 14 days. The fertile window display spans five days before through one day after the estimated ovulation date. Real timing can fall outside this window.

Variation moves the whole window

If ovulation occurs earlier or later than assumed, both the estimated date and displayed fertile window are wrong by the same shift.

Scientific Background

ACOG gives the practical 14-days-before-next-period estimate and a roughly six-day fertile interval. NIH research found that fertile timing is highly unpredictable even among people with usually regular cycles. NHS guidance similarly states that pinpointing ovulation is difficult and describes ovulation as commonly 10–16 days before the next period.

Not contraception or a fertility test

These dates cannot define safe days, confirm ovulation, predict pregnancy, diagnose infertility, or guarantee conception. The estimate is specifically not applicable when cycles are irregular. Use appropriate clinical and contraceptive guidance for decisions.
