How to Calculate a Discount

Enter the listed price and one percentage discount. The tool computes a single percent-off operation; it does not infer tax or combine sequential promotions.

Stacked discounts are sequential

Twenty percent off followed by ten percent off is not thirty percent off. Apply the first sale price as the original price for a second calculation.

Sale Price Versus Savings

The savings amount is the original price multiplied by the discount rate. The calculator rounds savings to two decimals before subtracting it from the original price, matching a common receipt-style calculation. A 100% discount returns a final price of zero, while a 0% discount leaves the price unchanged. Tax and fees are intentionally separate because their bases and rates depend on the transaction.
